Each year since 1977, International Council of Museums has organised International Museum Day, which represents a unique moment for the international museum community.

The objective of International Museum Day is to raise awareness about the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”

The oldest and probably the most famous museum in Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University is the anatomical museum. Here are collected more than 500 exhibits. No electronic media can replace practical skills, and for this reason, for the majority of departments, the anatomical museum is not just a collection of anatomical preparations, but also the place for practical classes. It plays an especially important role in the process of education. The anatomical museum remains the place where the dead teach the living – “Hic mortui docent vivos”.
