General information

General information about academic mobility

Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University offers students, PHD students and staff members to take part in academic mobility programmes

Academic mobility is an opportunity for participants in the educational process to study, teach, train or conduct research in another higher education institution (research institution) in Ukraine (internal mobility) or abroad (international mobility).

International academic mobility is one of the priority areas of IFNMU’s activities, opening up great opportunities for participants to deepen their knowledge, professional growth, advanced training, research, and improve their foreign language skills.

IFNMU offers students, PHD students and staff members to gain knowledge, skills and experience at universities in different European countries. The list of educational institutions with which our university cooperates is constantly updated. For the period of participation in the programmes, participants retain their place of study/work.

The International Relations Department of the University provides consultations for those wishing to participate in the programmes, coordinates and controls international academic mobility.

Forms of academic mobility:

  • Study under academic mobility programmes;
  • Language training;
  • Scientific training;
  • Participation in joint projects;
  • Teaching;
  • Scientific research;
  • Advanced training.

Types of academic mobility

Individual. The right to academic mobility can also be exercised by Ukrainian participants in the educational process, as well as by employees of an educational institution (research institution) on their own initiative, provided that the head of the educational institution (research institution) makes a positive decision based on a submission and an individual invitation from a foreign educational institution (research institution). Such a person acquires the status of a participant in academic mobility in accordance with this Procedure from the moment the decision of the head of the educational institution (research institution) is made. From that moment on, such a person has all the rights and obligations of a Ukrainian participant defined by this Procedure, and the educational institution (research institution) of the permanent place of study (work) and the educational institution (research institution) that issued the invitation have all the rights and obligations defined by this Procedure for partner institutions.

Institutional. These are programmes that are organised by the university, for example, through agreements with partner educational institutions. Participants are selected on a competitive basis and these programmes are part of the university’s strategic activities.

Visa information

According to the rules of visa-free travel to the EU, Ukrainians can stay in the territory of the European Union for up to 90 days within 180 days without visas. If the mobility period is less than 90 days, the participant may decide whether to apply for a visa. If the mobility period exceeds 90 days, a visa is required.

Insurance for travelling abroad

The obligation of obtaining insurance for travelling abroad to participate in an academic mobility programme is determined by inter-institutional agreements. If insurance is optional, a student, postgraduate student or staff member can obtain it on their own, if they consider it essential.

Erasmus+

Academic mobility programmes

Erasmus+ is the European Union’s initiative for global collaboration in the realms of education, youth, and sports. Its primary objective is to facilitate the holistic growth of individuals within the EU and globally, fostering sustainable development, creating high-quality employment opportunities, and promoting social unity. Furthermore, it aims to stimulate innovation, support European identity and encourage active civic engagement. The programme achieves these goals by offering various learning and academic exchange initiatives for both students and young professionals, supporting collaborative projects and partnerships, facilitating strategic development and cooperation, fostering professional networks, and providing open educational resources.

Mobility is a central aspect of the Erasmus+ programme, encompassing various opportunities for individuals and organizations to travel, study, train, or work abroad within Europe and beyond. The mobility actions under Erasmus+ include student mobility for higher education, staff mobility for teaching and training, mobility for young people, youth workers, mobility for learners and staff in vocational education and training (VET) and virtual exchanges in higher education and youth. These mobility actions promote intercultural learning, professional development, and collaboration among participants from diverse backgrounds and sectors.
